The transfer window that operates during the close season of the European football calendar is a period of fervent business in the buying and selling of some of the world’s most talented players. Goalmouth will keep you up-to-date with the latest spin from the transfer markets until deadline day of August 31.

Samuel Eto'o is still making the news on the back of yesterday's wage revelations. Amazingly The Sun reports the Barcelona superstar is demanding a $21 million signing-on fee on top of the $400k weekly wage. City, according to the tabloid, feel this is a bit rich even for their blood and could now pull out of the deal. Whoever said today's footballers were greedy?

Arshavin quiet about his intentions to move? Not likely.

The Sun also claims Arsenal’s five-month-old signing Andrei Arshavin would move to Barcelona given the chance. The striker, who signed with the Gunners in a $28 million deal earlier in the year, has shocked the Emirates' residents, but will Arsene Wenger let his man go so soon?

Chelsea are hungry to splash the cash if The Mirror is to be believed. Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has agreed a four-year $28 million deal with CSKA Moscow’s Yuri Zhirkov along with transfers for Manchester City’s Daniel Sturridge and Middlesbrough goalkeeper Ross Turnball.

And flipping through the channels on the box, Sportitalia claims Chelsea could add more to their squad if Inter’s Maicon gives a thumbs up to the club this week. According to reports from the network, it is probable the Brazilian, who helped his team win Confederations Cup on Sunday, will make the move to Stamford Bridge.

Finally L'Equipe tells of transfer news in Germany, it looks like VfL Wolfsburg are eager to sign Algerian playmaker Karim Ziani. Wolfsburg made a $14 million bid for Marseille’s man in the hopes of getting him to the Bundesliga. It appears the midfielder is unhappy with the idea of not having a starting spot next season, resulting in his contemplation over the generous bid.
